Cell Information:
Mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC) are usually harvested and cultured from normal human bone marrow. The cells have the ability to differentiate into osteogenic, chondrogenic and adipogenic lineages. Cells are positive for CD105, CD166, CD29, and CD44. Cells test negative for CD14, CD34 and CD45.The potential of hMSC to maintain multipotency and proliferate extensively in vitro provides new avenues for cell-based therapy in the restoration of damaged or diseased tissue. Recent reports indicate that hMSC are capable of cell fates crossing germ layer boundaries. In addition to differentiating into multi-lineages of the mesoderm, these cells can also differentiate into neurons of ectodermal origin and hepatocyte-like cells of endodermal origin.
The Transfection Reagent:
Transfection of primary cells and stem cells, such as hMSC, has always been challenging, both technically and financially. The most common systems currently used for molecular delivery to these cells include expensive electroporation instruments and relatively toxic chemical formulations.
Human Mesenchymal Stem Cell (Human Marrow Stromal Cell) (hMSC) Avalanche® Transfection Reagent is a new class of unique chemical formulations specifically formulated and optimized for transfecting hMSC. The proprietary formulation of lipids and polymers ensures the highest possible transfection efficiencies and viabilities for hMSC.
